Walk-through metal detectors generally fall between two categories, single-zone and multiple-zone. Their method of operation uses pulse induction or continuous wave technology. In OPSEC Metal Detection’s Walk-Through Metal Detectors, the archway is divided into a number of horizontal zones, allowing weapon height to be displayed. Particular zones, in the case of actual multiple zone walk-through metal detectors, are actually individual metal detectors that are housed within the gatepost assembly. The sensitivity levels of each zone can be separately and precisely adjusted. Further adjustment can be made in a multi- zone walk-through metal detector to extend and divide the horizontal zones into three sectors, allowing weapon location to be precisely located. The multi- zone metal detector also indicates the height at which a weapon is carried, whether the weapon is in the center, left or right sector of the walk-through metal detector.

Today’s multiple-zone walk-through metal detectors transmit low intensity magnetic fields and detect anything that will conduct electric current. A typical pulsed-field portal transmitter generates a magnetic field that reacts with metal objects and creates its own magnetic field. Pulses of magnetic energy are continually generated by the transmitter, pass through the person being screened and are then displayed on the receiver panels. When passing through a multiple sensor continuous-wave detector, the person being screened is scanned from both sides by a continuously oscillating magnetic field.

OPSEC Walk-Through Metal Detection equipment offer excellent electrical interference rejection, eradicating false alarms. Uniform detection exists throughout the entire detector even when it is installed on a floor containing reinforcing steel. The equipment is also continuously active, which means that weapons or contraband cannot be passed, slid or tossed through the detector undetected.

The sensitivity of OPSEC Walk-Through Metal Detection gates is adjustable. On the highest volume, articles as small as a paper clip can be detected and located. The user can configure the various gates according to the size and weight of the article for detection to exclude alarm notifications for coins, keys, jewellery, and belt buckles.
